Abstract
This study attempts to examine philanthropic behavior(amount of money and time) of the elderly people with the comparison of young-old and old-old elderly people by using the 2015 Social Survey and the Seeming Unrelated Regression Tobit Model(SURTobit Model). Main results are as follows£º(1) when focusing on all the elderly people, most of human capital factors, social capital factors, and cultural capital factor were significant for giving and volunteering; (2) when focusing on all the elderly people, household income and gender had different direction in the relationships with giving and volunteering; (3) when separately examining young-old elderly people and old-old elderly people, it was found that young-old elderly people are more active in both giving and volunteering; and (4) in young old elderly, almost all the factors were significant for both giving and volunteering while in old-old elderly, only social capital factors were significant for both giving and volunteering; and (5) it was found that there was a weak but significant complementary relationship between giving and volunteering of elderly people. Although this study has limitations caused by using secondary data, it contributes to broadening and deepening understanding on the elderly's philanthropic behavior.
